L.A. Daily News: We’re fighting Trump from here to Washington – Brad Sherman

President Donald Trump poses a threat to our neighborhoods, and to the world. Last Sunday, Noah Edelson wrote an op-ed in the Los Angeles Daily News wondering what I was doing about it.

I owe Mr. Edelson, one of my constituents in California’s 30th Congressional District, a response on what I’m doing to communicate, legislate and organize.

Mr. Edelson writes that he attended our town-hall meeting in Van Nuys on Feb. 24 and plans to attend our next one. I hope you will too: Saturday, April 22, at 2 p.m., at Reseda High School. Parking and refreshments are free.

Mr. Edelson urges telephone town halls. Our next one will be in June. Before that, we’ll host a Facebook town hall in May.

Mr. Edelson urges me to more send emails. House rules severely limit spam emails — but they allow almost unlimited email to those who sign up. If you want to be informed, go to BradSherman.House.gov and sign up. I’ll keep you informed of events in Washington, D.C., and give you details about our upcoming Valley Town Halls. And follow me on Twitter: @BradSherman.

Mr. Edelson wants me to speak out. See BradSherman.house.gov for a 23-page list of the actions I’ve taken to stop Trump in the last 70 days. These include co-sponsoring legislation that would void Trump’s Muslim Ban, force Trump to release his tax returns, and create an independent commission to investigate possible collusion between Trump and Russia’s Vladimir Putin.

You’ll also want to see my legislative efforts to eliminate the Electoral College, overturn the Citizens United on campaign finance and protect Planned Parenthood — and the Sanders-Sherman Bill to break up the too-big-to-fail banks.

See my YouTube page, by searching “Congressman Brad Sherman,” to watch my House floor speeches and TV appearances. I was the first to call for a special counsel — special prosecutor — to investigate possible collusion between the Trump campaign and the Kremlin (see the Jan. 16 clip from MSNBC). I don’t just preach to the choir. I’m often on Fox News. See the recent clips from Bill O’Reilly and Tucker Carlson.

I joined the Women’s March on Jan. 21, and as a CPA I’m speaking at the “March to Release Trump’s Tax Returns” on April 15 at 10 a.m. in Pershing Square in downtown Los Angeles. And I will be speaking at the “March for Science” on April 22 at 10 a.m., also at Pershing Square.

To stop Trump’s dangerous agenda, we need to affect Republican members of Congress. Millions of marchers haven’t persuaded them. What will? A Congressional election — and we don’t have to wait until 2018.

Tom Price was recently selected by Donald Trump to #MakeAmericaSickAgain. Price resigned from Congress and joined the Trump Cabinet as secretary of Health and Human Services.

Trump appointed Price because he was certain a Republican would be elected to replace Price and represent Georgia’s 6th District. After all, “Georgia 6” is Newt Gingrich’s old seat.

The special election is April 18, and surprisingly, Democrat Jon Ossoff is leading in the polls. If a Democrat wins Georgia’s 6th district, it will shake the Republican Congressional Caucus like an 8.6 on the Richter scale.

Valley volunteers, including the Democratic Party of the San Fernando Valley, Indivisible, and the Action Huddles, have already made thousands of calls to individual voters in Georgia’s 6th district — in fact, we’ve done more than just about any other Congressional district outside of Georgia.

We know Valley phone banks can be effective. Last fall, Valley volunteers made more than 50,000 calls to voters in Nevada and Florida, both swing states, to help elect Jacky Rosen and Val Demings. They both won close elections and have been with me on the House floor fighting to preserve Obamacare, protect immigrants and defend the EPA.

Elections have consequences.

Brad Sherman, D-Sherman Oaks, represents California’s 30th District in the U.S. Congress.
